"Sthreesabdam" is a monthly publication and the official organ of the Kerala State Unit of AIDWA (All India Democratic Women's Association), an independent, left-oriented women's organization committed to achieve the goals related to democracy, equality and women's emancipation. As the name indicates, "Sthreesabdam" is envisioned as a space for raising women's voices. It was established in January, 2001 and has wide circulation with about 1lakh subscribers. The magazine publishes articles on women's issues and other relevant contemporary social and political issues related to democracy and equality.Issues embodying national and international concerns as well as regional and local interests are included in the contents with a perspective to provide sufficient information to the activists of AIDWA and the general public, especially women. Interviews with women leaders and successful ladies who have proven their potential in various fields are published frequently with details related to their glorious contributions and achievements. The magazine provides a platform for creative expressions also by publishing short stories, poems and plays mostly written by women. Legal matters related to women are often discussed and debated in a detailed manner and tips related to the physical and mental health and well-being of women and children are given in various volumes. As the organ of AIDWA, "Sthreesabdam" hosts news and photos of the major agitations and campaigns undertaken by the organization. "Sthreesabdam" is the ideological weapon of AIDWA, Kerala to fight against superstition and evil customs which relegate women to the margins. It is effectively used to resist regressive ideology and propaganda of conservative forces, through upholding the shield of progressive ideals and secular outlook. Critical studies and reviews of films, plays and other cultural practices are undertaken seriously so as to expose their implicit gender politics and cultural works of resistance are encouraged and promoted.
